Brother Douglas N. Cairns

 -2003-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

Brother Cairns was called to duty once again to fill in as Master of the Lodge. Installation was on January 11th and Past Grand Master Sam Pavlovich was the Installing Officer. Bro. Gerald Sharer PM was Master of Ceremonies and Bro. Leroy Foote PM was Installing Chaplain. The following week Bro. Chad Warshel of Gresham Lodge No. 152 from Portland, Oregon gave a great third degree proficiency, this was done a s courtesy to Gresham Lodge.

In February, Bro. J.C. Butcher finally got his 50 year pin and was pinned by his grand daughter Trisha. Donations had started to come in for the new "Carpet Fund" that was set up to raise money for badly needed new carpet in the Lodge room. The 2003 budget was approved by motion and vote. Over one month went by without any degree's, a rarity at Clovis Lodge.

April got us back on track with degree work and new petitions started coming in. We welcomed new members Mr. Rohan, Mr. Knnablian and Mr. Weldon. The annual visitation form the District Inspector was at the April stated meeting. Wor. Cline "Cub" Jack was introduced with honors. May brought us two new members by affiliation. Bro.'s Chad Warshel and Fred Doll affiliated with Clovis Lodge. Bro. Ralph Bissett also got his 50 year pin before the stated meeting in May.

At the stated meeting in May it was discussed that volunteers were needed to assist the many schools that Clovis Lodge works with. Year end activities were starting to mount up and the schools could use some helping hands. Bro. Tom MacNicol was designated to lead the committee to decide upon the carpet for the Lodge room. Also there were quite a few Child ID functions coming up and it was discussed that help was going to be needed for these also.

At the June stated meeting Boy Scout Troop 417 made a charter presentation to Clovis Lodge, this newly formed boy scout troop was to meet at Clovis Lodge. It was reported that the Lodge had made almost a thousand dollars at the recent yard sale, not a bad profit for all of the hard work and donations. The Lodge management board had officially changed their name to Clovis Masonic Center Management Board or CMCMB. Funds were also in place to arrange for the new carpet in the Lodge room as soon as the Lodge went dark.

Over the summer the new carpet was installed in the Lodge room and several changes were made inside the building. Once again Clovis Lodge members worked together to make this Lodge a better place. The Lodge room looks great and the carpet is beautiful. It was decided to make a plaque on the wall to hang the nameplates that were fastened to the arms of the chairs. The nameplates were catching dresses and suits and needed to be removed. We also decided to sell the piano and organ and purchase a new electric piano that can be a piano or organ. The Northwest corner of the Lodge room looks much less cluttered than it used too.

In September, Bro. Eugene McGaughy received his 50 year pin before the stated meeting. There was also a moment of silence in remembrance of the United States citizens lost on 9-11. The rest of the month was taken up by degrees, finally things were starting to roll again. At the October stated meeting Bro. Jesse J. O'Farrell received his 50 year pin before the stated meeting. It was also discussed and passed to allow the Rainbow Girls and the Boy Scouts to meet at Clovis Lodge for free. This evening we also had a visitor from Cary-Grove Lodge No. 1157 from Cary, Illonis. His name was Bro. Gabor Csaszar.

November held the annual election of Officers and Senior Warden William H. (Bill) Lyons was elected to be Master of the Lodge for the next Masonic year. Installation was set for December 14, 2003, Bro. Bill was getting nervous...hehehe. Roll call dinner was held in December and was the annual spaghetti feast.

Brethren lost this year were Bro's. William Alfred Brown, David Ross Crowe Jr., Homer Kenneth Davis, Harry Albert Dofner, Glen Howard Drake, Haley Fudge, Robert Henry Henrikson, Edward Leroy Rosenthal, and Timothy Allen Schuster, a victim of murder.
